Danny McNamara has joined the Addicks on a two-year-deal.
The full-back arrives as Nathan Jones’ fourth signing of the summer, having spent the majority of his career in the Sky Bet Championship.
We take a closer look at his journey so far.
Academy development at Charlton and Millwall
Born in Sidcup, McNamara began his development at the Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) Advanced Centre, where he joined at the age of seven, before being picked up by Charlton's academy. He played in the academy set up at Sparrows Lane until he was 14.
After leaving the Addicks, he began playing for non-League side Corinthians in Kent, before being scouted by Millwall in 2015 and signing a two-year scholarship with the Lions.
Welling United (loan)
Upon signing for Millwall, McNamara was sent on loan to then-National League South outfit Welling United in the 2018/19 season. The defender played nine times, before embarking on another loan, this time in the National League.
Dover Athletic (loan)
Upon his return from Welling, he made the steup up to the fifth tier with Dover Atheltic, making eight appearances for The Whites and netting once during his brief spell on the Kent coast.
Havant & Waterlooville (loan)
The defender was loaned out once more in the 2018/19 season, this time to Havant & Waterlooville for the remainder of the National League campaign. He played four times and netted one goal.
Newport County (loan)
At the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign, McNamara was loaned from Millwall to Sky Bet League Two side Newport County on a season-long loan. He made his EFL debut at the Welsh club and went onto play 23 times. He was recalled by his parent club in January 2020.
St Johnstone (loan)
Ahead of the 2020/21 season, McNamara, and teammate Tanto Olaofe, both joined Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone on a season-long loan. He totalled 22 appearances, but was recalled by the Lions in the following January.
Millwall
Upon his return to Millwall from Scotland in January 2021, McNamara made his debut for the club in the FA Cup on January 9th, 2021. His league debut soon followed. The right-back has gone onto register 166 appearances for the Lions in all competitions, scoring twice and totalling four assists.
While with the Lions, he gained international recognition at U21 level for Republic of Ireland, receiving two caps.
He now joins the Addicks with 157 Championship appearances under his belt, having spent six seasons in England’s second tier.
Comfortable in both defence and midfield on the right flank, McNamara offers Jones valuable versatility going into the 2026/27 season.
