Danny McNamara has joined the Addicks, becoming Nathan Jones' fourth signing of the summer window, after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal at The Valley.
Sidcup-born McNamara joined Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s Advance Centre at the age of seven and was picked up by the Addicks academy where he remained until the age of 14.
“I am absolutely delighted to get it done. As you probably know I started my career here from very young, from U8s until I was about 15, so it definitely holds a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to get going again," he said.
“I know how big of a club Charlton are, I have a lot of family who are Charlton fans, it’s a great community and I am delighted to be a part of it and it’s an exciting time and I can’t wait to get going.”
McNamara was pleased to see a few familiar faces around Sparrows Lane.
“It is always nice to see some familar faces, I am looking forward to meeting up with them. Karlan [Grant] I have known for years, Matty Godden I know well and I know Conor Coventry from the Ireland set up. It is always good to know people in the set-up already and I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the lads," he explained.
“It has moved pretty quick really, in sort of the last five to seven days, there was some interest and things got moving quickly. I met the manager on Monday and as soon as I met him I knew this was the right place for me. As soon as I heard the ambitions and what he wants to build in and around the place, it’s very exciting and I want to be a part of that.”
“The manager has a good track record, he knows the league, and Want to be a part of that, it’s a really exciting time for the club.”
“First and foremost, I want to keep the ball out of the back of our net," he said.
"I am a feisty character, I love a one-v-one, I love defending, I like to link up with the winger, get crosses in and put the ball in the back of the net. I want to give 110% for the shirt, blood sweat and tears.”
The right-back arrives in SE7 with over 155 Championship appearances.
“I have a wealth of experience in this league which is something I can bring into the changing room. This league is relentless, there will be plenty of ups and downs, hopefully more ups than downs. I am sure the fans will stick with us, its exciting and hopefully we can have a successful season.”
