FRIDAY FIVE | Great goals against Blackpool

With the Addicks heading to Blackpool on Saturday, we delve into the Valley Pass archive to take a look at some of the best goals scored against the Seasiders over the last 25 years.

Valley Pass’ unrivalled archive features every single competitive Charlton goal netted in the last quarter of a century. Here are five of the best scored against this weekend’s opponents…

Luke Varney vs Blackpool (07/08)

Luke Varney netted one of four goals scored by the Addicks, as his side ran out 4-1 winners at The Valley back in 2008. Madjid Bougherra headed the hosts into an early lead after he met Darren Ambrose’s in-swinging corner. Varney added the Addicks’ second of the game, as he turned his defender wonderfully before driving a powerful low strike under the goalkeeper. Zheng Zhi added the final two goals in an impressive win for the Addicks.

Chris Solly vs Blackpool (12/13)

Fan’s favourite Chris Solly scored one of the goals of the 2012/13 season, as the Addicks were 2-0 victors on their visit to the seaside. The ball ricocheted into Solly’s path, who struck a venomous effort that flew past the helpless goalkeeper into the top corner, to stun the home crowd… and his teammates!

Callum Harriott vs Blackpool (13/14)

A Callum Harriott hat-trick secured a final-day victory for the Addicks which topped off a good end to the season after gaining survival in the Championship four days earlier. The winger scored the 45th hat-trick in the club’s history and the pick of the bunch was the striker’s third goal of the game - the academy graduate placing his effort from the edge of the area into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. Blackpool also survived on the last day of the season, due to other results that kept them afloat, making the day a double celebration.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson vs Blackpool (14/15)

Johann Gudmundsson struck a sensational free-kick as the Addicks won 3-0 for the second season on the bounce in Blackpool.

Charlton dominated proceedings throughout, with Chris Eagles opening the scoring early on. Simon Chruch scored the second of the game with a close-range effort, before Gudmundsson produced a moment of quality on a very poor surface. The winger’s free kick curled away into the top corner, out of the goalkeepers reach to secure another three points on the road.

Joe Aribo vs Blackpool (17/18)

In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Joe Aribo scored an incredible solo effort in the Addicks’ 1-1 draw with the Tangerines at The Valley. It was the home side who took the lead in the 15th minute, as Aribo dribbled the ball round the visitors’ defence with some quick footwork, before blasting the ball into the bottom corner to send the Addicks fans delirious.

Blackpool, however, scored in the 91st minute with the final attack of the game to take a share of the points.
