U18S REPORT | Charlton 1 Bolton Wanderers 3

George Jones reports

Charlton’s U18s suffered only their second league defeat in 20 matches on Saturday morning as they were beaten by Bolton Wanderers at Sparrows Lane.

The Addicks - currently top of Professional Development League 2 South – fell two goals behind before fit-again Terrique Anderson pulled one back on 65 minutes.

Wanderers quickly regained their two-goal advantage, however, and that ensured they recorded maximum points in south-east London.

The visitors took the lead two minutes before the break. Ryan White won possession on the edge of Charlton’s box and skipped beyond a challenge before firing into the corner of the net.

A period of three goals in seven minutes began on 62 minutes when Bolton doubled their advantage. The strike came in some style.

Matt Fearnley picked up the ball 60 yards out and, seeing goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer off his line, he aimed at goal with his effort flying into the net from inside his own half.

It was an incredible goal but Charlton reduced the deficit three minutes later. Anderson, back on the pitch after a long-term knee injury, sprinted into the box and connected with a low Timmy Abraham cross to poke home from close range.

Bolton restored their two-goal lead five minutes later, though, when Fearnley sent a cross into the box that missed everyone in the middle but bounced into the corner of the goal.

The result leaves the Addicks top of the table, however second-placed Coventry City sit just two points behind and have two matches in hand.
