WOMEN’S TEAM | Post-16 football academy launches in partnership with local school

David Brenchley reports

Charlton Athletic Women’s Football Club can confirm details of its Post-16 Girls’ Football Academy, run in partnership with Thomas Tallis School in Eltham.

The full-time education and football course will offer attendees the chance to study for a BTEC extended Level 3 in Sports Science (or Sports), equivalent to three A-Levels, as well as giving opportunities for additional qualifications in Sports Leadership, First Aid and many more.

They will also benefit from coaching by UEFA A and B Licensed coaches working within CAWFC’s Regional Talent Club (RTC).

Moreover, it provides a future pathway into the club’s senior team, which currently boasts a number of home-grown players at its core, including club captain Kim Dixson, who has played over 220 times for the club and Kit Graham, who has netted 145 goals in 164 appearances since making her debut aged 16.

Paul McDonagh, RTC Technical Director at Charlton Athletic WFC, said: “I am pleased to announce the post-16 academy project, which will start in September this year. This will bridge the gap between the U16 team and senior football.

“Players will be able to play full-time whilst studying for qualifications that will help them in future life no matter what their career choice.

“Thomas Tallis are a forward-thinking school. We have worked together to finalise this program and I look forward to a long and successful partnership with them.”
