Charlton’s U21s suffered a first defeat in eight as Bristol City ran out 4-1 victors at Ashton Gate on Tuesday afternoon.
Elijah Adebayo gave the Robins the lead on the half-hour mark, firing home via the outstretched boot of Nehmani McNamee-Burke after being teed up by Sam Bell.
The young Addicks started the second period brightly and got their reward on 55 minutes. Ellis McMillan stole back possession in the final third and found Kai Kobashi Enslin, who coolly fired into the bottom-right corner.
Substitute Harry Hogg restored the hosts’ advantage 11 minutes from time with a fine finish after a neat run forward from Luke Skinner.
Hogg added his second and Bristol City’s third five minutes later, converting from just outside the six-yard box.
Rhys Knight made it four for the Robins in additional time, sending a pinpoint strike into the bottom-left corner from 25 yards.
Chris Lock’s U21s are next in action on Friday, October 9th when they visit Stoke City in the Premier League Cup (7pm BST).
