Bristol City U18s 0 Charlton U18s 2

Charlton’s U18s continued their impressive form over the weekend, making it three wins on the spin with a 2-0 victory over Bristol City in the PDL at the Robins High Performance Centre.

There was little to report in the opening stages as both sides tried to get a foothold in the game.

The first few chances of the game fell to the home side, who could not make their efforts count. Logan Williams was called into action on 20 minutes to deny the Robins from opening the scoring.

Minutes later, the first chance for the young Addicks fell to Zaion Christian, who found himself in some space in the Bristol City penalty area. Rueben Jones-Lartey fizzed the ball into the feet of Christian, who saw his shot well-blocked by the Robins’ defence.

Jason Pearce’s side had a flurry of chances towards the latter stages of the first half, that kept Bristol City goalkeeper Harry Lawrence busy. The two teams went into half-time level at 0-0.

Roman Lawrence had a stellar opportunity to put the home team ahead at the start at the second half after he found himself free at the back post. However, the defender couldn’t direct his effort on target.

It would be two of the substitutes who would change the game for the visitors.

Charlton left it late to secure all three points, as they opened the scoring on 85 minutes. Bristol City failed to clear their lines, and the ball fell to Ethan Jeche inside the area, who fired home into the top corner to give the young Addicks the lead.

Jayden Twum would consolidate the win just six minutes later to make it 2-0. Christian clipped the ball over the top of the Robins’ defence and into the path of Twum who had done well to keep himself onside. The striker calmly finished with a ball over the top of the keeper, to round off a successful afternoon for Jason Pearce’s side.

Charlton’s U18s are next in action on Saturday, November 21st as they travel to south Wales to take on Swansea City’s U18s in the PDL (2pm GMT).

Charlton: Williams; Jones-Lartey, Simons, Reid; Laronde (Boje 86), Fleming (Jeche 54), Randall, Richman (Grover-Smith 86); Christian, Peterkin (Twum 86), Podgorny
