Nathan Jones is looking forward to the Addicks’ trip to Wales this weekend, with Charlton set to take on Cardiff City in the Sky Bet Championship (12.30pm BST).
His side come into Saturday's clash off the back of successive back-to-back draws against QPR and Portsmouth respectively.
"We have to do the basics well, we have to lay down a foundation," he said.
"We believe that from that platform, we will score goals and, to be fair, the QPR game was a tough game, they are in very good form at the minute. They play tricky football, they are tricky to play against, and we scored a perfectly legit goal we feel, that was disallowed. We felt we needed a bit more quality in the Portsmouth game. We should have won it, could have lost it. It was a real good Championship game."
"We do feel like we have reset defensively, we have kept two back-to-back clean sheets, which is very difficult to do in the Championship. But then we need to be able to provide enough threat going forward to have won both games."
"We have gotten better, I won’t let anyone deny the fact that this club has moved forward in the last two years, because we have. We have gone up a league and if you were to look at this squad and put it in League One now, it would be a categorically a different outcome to what it was. We have worked really hard on that, we are evolving and we will get better, we will not move backwards. Because of the work we do and the desire we put in."
"We understand the Championship is brutal and unforgiving and we are up against some very big clubs."
The gaffer has been pleased with Miles Leaburn’s form, with the striker producing a string of impressive performances to start the season.
"When I first came into this club, Miles Leaburn had come off the back of a very bad injury," he explained.
"It was one where he couldn’t trust his body as much and he was going into his body. He is a big figure and he needed to get regular games we were playing at, then we jumped quickly into a new division. Then he had to adjust to that level, now in his second season we are starting to see the fruits of our labour. When I say us, I mean the coaching staff, our team and Miles himself."
"He looks like a proper number nine and that is what I am proud of."
This weekend's fixture in south Wales is the team's last one before the international break, a time that the manager hopes will aid a few players' recovery.
"We will see far more people after the international break. We will have a considerably stronger group, we will have a stronger squad and plenty of head aches," he said.
"Charlie Kelman’s injury was structural and healed very quickly because he did everything perfectly. He was able to train along the way, just none contact. Josh [Edwards] is slightly different and we have held him back, because he had a set back early in it, so we have had to be really careful and build him up, and he looks like the Josh Edwards of old, which can only be good for this football club."
"What we have really focused on is getting people back, and we are absolutely delighted that we can use the time soon to do that. We have lost a load of defenders, we are light in that area, we have had a congested period and we have made sane decisions and signed good players. We have had to rotate people and get to this point now and be in a stronger position."
Meanwhile, Jones expects a tough test from the Bluebirds this weekend.
"Cardiff are very well coached and structured, they are a heavily possession based team and we need to be the best versions of ourselves, and that is all I can ask for. I want our stats to improve."
"I always love going back to God’s country anyway! Going across the bridge, it is a bonus now that you don’t have to pay! We know it is going to be a difficult game. I love going back to Wales to see family, Cardiff is one of my favourite cities. We will be in and out because of the early kick off and the travel time. All I am concerned with is coming back with the points."
