Jones: "We've had a really good week"

-

Nathan Jones has been handed a timely boost ahead of Saturday's clash with Norwich City (12.30pm BST), with both Nathaniel Chalobah and Matty Godden back in training as the Addicks prepare to defend their unbeaten home record.

Charlton welcome the Canaries to The Valley and Jones revealed his squad is now in a much healthier position following the return of the experienced duo.

Asked about his squad's fitness, the manager said: "The squad is very healthy. We've got Nathaniel Chalobah and Matty Godden back training with us now, which is a big plus, so we're in a strong position in terms of numbers and availability."

Following last weekend's defeat at Watford, Jones has been pleased with his side's response on the training ground during a full week between fixtures.

"We've had a really good week," he explained. "We've freshened the players up, they look sharp and we're ready for a different challenge."

There could also be further good news for Charlton supporters in the coming days, with Jones revealing the club remains hopeful of adding to the squad: "We'll have news on that in the very near future, I'm sure. We'd like to bring one in for a position we're looking at and, as I said, we'll have news on that soon."

The manager admitted his side fell short of their usual standards at Vicarage Road but is expecting an immediate response this weekend.

He said: "We didn't do what we wanted to do. We weren't aggressive enough out of possession and, when we had the ball, we didn't move it well enough or use it as effectively as we normally do.

"A lot of the things that form part of our DNA, we didn't do, and that has to change."

Jones knows his side will need to be at their best against a Norwich team boasting significant Championship quality, but he is eager for Charlton to make home advantage count once again: "We're at home and we want to win the game. We've been good at The Valley and we want to continue that.

"It's a big game. They've got a fantastic squad and a good manager. They're a difficult team to play against, so we'll have to be at our best."

With the Addicks seeking a return to winning ways, Jones sees Saturday's fixture as an opportunity to build on the strong foundations they have established at The Valley this season.

He concluded: "We need to get back to winning ways. We haven't won for too long now. We have to put that right because we're starting to drift a little bit. We need to get back to winning games and that's our focus."
