Everton 1 Charlton 0
Charlton Athletic lost to Everton at Goodison Park, finishing a tight game with nine players.
The Addicks made one change to the starting line-up as new signing Cassandra Korhonen made her debut up top, replacing Paula Partido.
The first half was tightly contested, with neither team finding a clear chance. The best chance of the half fell to Ashleigh Neville, whose audacious half-volley from about 30 yards dipped viciously at the end and cannoned back off the crossbar just after the 20-minute mark.
In contrast to last week's game against Liverpool, Charlton were always in the game, constricting the hosts to half-chances and speculative efforts.
Charlton came close to taking the lead in the 37th minute when a well-worked free kick was nodded back across the box by Neville. Elisha N'Dow was there to meet the knockdown, but her headed effort went just past the post.
The second half started much the same as the first, until the game-changing moment came in the 58th minute as Neville was giving her marching orders for a high tackle on Everton's Ruby Mace.
Whilst the red card seemed harsh, the decision forced Charlton to sit back even more, halting any momentum the Addicks had, and buoyed the Everton side.
To help with the new defensive work the Addicks had to do, Karen Hills made a host of changes, bringing on Hawa Cissoko and Leighanne Robe for their Charlton debuts, along with Gloria Siber.
The game's only goal came in the 77th minute when Holly McNamara's cross from tight in on the right took an unfortunate deflection off Leighanne Robe and sent the ball spinning past a helpless Sophie Whitehouse.
With the game winding down, Cissoko was sent off for Charlton for two yellow cards in added time, meaning Charlton finished with nine players.
