Charlton 2 Bristol City 0
Goals from Emily van Egmond and Lizzie Waldie ensured Charlton picked up their first win of the season against Bristol City in the Subway Players Club at The Valley.
The opening exchanges went largely without incident, the only chance dropping to Charlton’s most prolific player of the season so far, Jodie Hutton, firing a trademark left-footed shot from distance wide of the goal in the 11th minute.
Hutton continued to look the most likely to open the scoring for Charlton, as she registered four shots towards goal in the first half, including a header from a Lorena Azzaro cross which was safely collected by Bristol City’s Lauren Brzykcy.
Karen Hills made three changes at half-time and the impact was almost instant.
Cassandra Korhonen broke into the box, only to be pulled down by Eve McDonald, who not only conceded a penalty, but was also sent off.
Ellie Mason stepped up and saw her penalty superbly saved by Brzykcy in the 56th minute.
Charlton then began to increase the pressure against a Bristol side who fought valiantly with a player down.
In the 77th minute Charlton finally got their reward from a set piece when Ellie Mason smartly flicked on a Carla Humphrey corner to Emily van Egmond who was there to prod it home.
That was swiftly followed by another as Lizzie Waldie headed home a Leah Davidson in the 80th minute to make it two nil to the Addicks.
Charlton continued to search for more through Korhonen, who nearly finished off a sweeping counter attack in the 87thminute but saw her effort finely saved by the City keeper.
