Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Anna Koivunen from Swedish side Djurgårdens IF.

Koivunen is a Finnish international who is ready for her first season in England after joining on a two-year contract as the Addicks head into their own first season in the BWSL.

"I’m really excited to be here. It’s been a couple of stressful days now, but I’m super excited to be here and meet the girls soon." Koivunen said.

"I’ve always wanted to play in England. I think the league is really interesting; there’s a lot of good players, and I feel like the things you did last year were really, really good, and I’m excited to be here and do even better.

"I have many friends playing here, and I have only heard good stories about the league, and obviously all the best players play here, so it’s going to be a huge challenge."

Koivunen will provide extra depth to the goalkeeping contingent and be extra competition for Sophie Whitehouse and Anna Pedersen.

"I’ve always been a goalkeeper; I don’t know why. There has to be something wrong with me. I played in Finland till I was 18/19, moved to Sweden, played there for five and a half years, most recently in Stockholm, and now I’m here."

The 24-year-old arrives at Charlton after spending the past five years in Sweden, playing for four different teams. Before her move to Sweden, Koivunen played for three different clubs in her native Finland, making her debut at only 13 years old.

She has been capped six times by the Finnish national team and was in the squad when they competed at the 2025 UEFA Women's Euros, keeping a clean sheet in the tournament's opening match.

Now, Koivunen is ready to make her mark in SE7.

"I’m really excited to meet everyone here at the Valley and hear you loud."
