Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) brought its second consecutive year of delivering its summer programme in the London Borough of Bexley to a close with a free Summer Celebration Day at Crook Log Leisure Centre. Held at the end of August, the event welcomed 460 attendees for an afternoon of free food, activities and entertainment.
The Celebration Day marked the culmination of a busy summer programme, which provided more than 500 young people with safe spaces throughout the six-week summer break. As part of the programme, CACT delivered activities across different areas of Bexley, visiting a range of venues throughout the summer and providing young people with opportunities to take part in sports, entertainment and other activities in a safe and welcoming environment.
CACT Co Risk and Violence Reduction Manager Kim Dixson, who oversaw the summer programme, said: “We’ve had a really busy summer in Bexley, visiting different areas to provide activities for young people throughout the summer. We wanted to make the Celebration Day as inclusive and free as possible for families and young people, with as much entertainment and as many activities as we could provide.
“It’s been really successful and it’s been fantastic to see how well it’s been received. Parents have been really happy that they’ve been able to entertain their children for the day without it costing them anything. People really appreciate having free opportunities like this, particularly in this day and age.
“We’re pleased that we've been able to have this funding to do this and put a smile on people's faces.”
The summer programme was delivered with the support of the London Borough of Bexley, Bexley Community Safety Partnership and the London Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).
