MATCH PREVIEW | Sheffield Wednesday v Charlton

Charlton are back on the road this Saturday as they travel to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday.

The Addicks will be looking to turn their recent fortunes around in South Yorkshire following four successive defeats.

TEAM NEWS

Johnnie Jackson confirmed in Thursday’s press conference that Scott Fraser (Covid) and Jayden Stockley (back) are back in contention having resumed training at Sparrows Lane, while Mason Burstow (hamstring) will be assessed following his withdrawal in midweek.

The Addicks will again be without the suspended Sean Clare, Corey Blackett-Taylor (hamstring) and Jake Forster-Caskey (ACL) - with forwards Chuks Aneke and Conor Washington also unlikely to figure against the Owls owing to muscular injuries.

Defensive duo Sam Hutchinson (hamstring) and Dominic Iorfa (hip) could both return for the hosts, who have a plethora of injury concerns of their own.

Harlee Dean (calf), Chey Dunkley (hamstring), Dennis Adeniran (hamstring), Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (ankle), Olamide Shodipo (hamstring), Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (hamstring), Tyreece John-Jules (quad), Lee Gregory (foot) and Josh Windass (hamstring) all remain sidelined for Wednesday.

THE OPPOSITION

Having won five of their last six league outings, Sheffield Wednesday currently sit eighth in the table, just a point adrift of the play-off places and with two games in hand on sixth-placed Sunderland.

Darren Moore’s side continued their charge towards the top six with a 3-1 win at Doncaster Rovers last time out.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Chalrton and Sheffield Wednesday have met on 59 previous occasions with the Addicks winning 20, the Owls 23 and the remaining 16 encounters resulting in draws.

The reverse fixture came at The Valley on the opening day of the season as the sides played out a goalless stalemate in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Our last visit to Hillsboorugh, meanwhile, came in February 2020 and resulted in an agonising loss owing to Steven Fletcher’s 95th-minute winner.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Oliver Langford will be the man in the middle on Saturday afternoon. The official last refereed a Charlton fixture in October 2021 - a 2-1 triumph at Fleetwood Town.

Langford will be assisted by Matthew Jones and Bhupinder Gill, while Marc Edwards is the Fourth Official.

COLOURS

The Addicks will be sporting their home kit at Hillsborough.
