Johnnie Jackson was once again left to rue the manner of the goals his side conceded as the Addicks suffered defeat against promotion-chasing Wigan Athletic.
The returning Elliot Lee broke the deadlock in seven minutes when he nodded home Adam Matthews’ pinpoint centre, but the hosts came from behind to claim maximum points at the DW Stadium.
“I thought we played better [than Tuesday] today,” Jackson told CharltonTV. “First-half, I thought we were excellent; the second-half was pretty even. I thought it was a good performance for the majority of the game.
“They're near the top of the league and they're probably going to get promoted. We've come here and we've more than matched them for good, good parts of the game; certainly in that first-half I thought some of the football was excellent, some of the chances that we created were really good - second-half not so much. Obviously to come away with nothing again is disappointing.
“I feel like I'm saying the same things that I said on Tuesday,” added the boss. “We scored a wonderfully worked goal, we've undone them and then we get done for money on two poor ones. Obviously a penalty and then one from a corner where we lose the first contact, lose the second contact in our penalty box and that cost us.
“If teams are opening you up, playing through you and getting chance after chance that would be more of a worry; that's not happening but we're getting done with soft goals for me."
Asked if Conor Washington or Chuks Aneke could feature against Oxford United next weekend, Jackson said: “I couldn’t say at the minute but it’s probably unlikely to be honest because of the nature of their injuries. We’ll have to reassess on Monday.
“It wasn’t a touch and go thing for today, it was quite clear that they wouldn’t be involved. It’s something we’re going to have to monitor in the week and see where we go.”
