Chris Parkes to retire as Club Secretary and remain in an ambassadorial role

Charlton would like to wish a very happy retirement to Chris Parkes, who will step down from his role as Club Secretary at the end of February.

Parkes joined the Addicks in 1988 and will remain at the club in an ambassadorial role.

Charlton Owner, Thomas Sandgaard, said: “Chris has been a loyal and dedicated staff member at Charlton for so many years and we’re very grateful for everything he has done for the club.

“There have been many changes at Charlton over the years but Chris has been a constant. He is highly respected at the football club, for his dedication to Charlton and his incredible work ethic.

“It is those attributes, his love of the club and his knowledge of Charlton and Charlton people that make him a perfect ambassador, so I am very pleased he will stay involved at the club. I think I speak for everyone at Charlton, when I say that I’d like to wish him a very happy retirement.”

Chris Parkes said: “I have been working for this great club for nearly half of my life. What a journey it has been. I started working from a portacabin at Selhurst Park back in 1988 during our years of exile. It is amazing to think of the facilities that we now have; an amazing stadium, unbelievable and dedicated staff and a management team which know how special this club is.

“I wanted to thank Thomas Sandgaard for his understanding and to say that my journey as a member of the Charlton Athletic family will certainly continue as a fan.

“Having been an Addick since 1958, I cannot just walk away. I am honoured that I have been invited to continue as a club ambassador, so I will still be at as many games as possible. I can then spend more time with all those friends I have made over the years and reminisce about all the highs and lows of being a football supporter.”
