John: "I’m over the moon"

Nile John is itching to get going with the Addicks after completing a loan move from Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

An England youth international, the creative midfielder has enjoyed 14 appearances for Spurs in the Premier League 2 this term, claiming seven goals and three assists.

“I’m over the moon,” beamed John. “It’s my first loan and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m really roaring to get out there and play for the fans and play for the badge.

“I will have to adapt to the different league; it's not really what I am used to but I’ll work for the team, for the badge and for the fans. It’s a process that I am going to put my all into, a period where it is going to help me develop by just putting in the work to be better for the team.”

Upon signing for Charlton, John was accompanied by former Addicks boss Chris Powell, now head of coaching at Spurs’ academy.

“Chris is more or less somebody I can really confide in at Spurs, he helps me with a lot of things,” explained the 18-year-old. “This connection with Charlton that he's had, showing me the history, how the fans have been, how the whole club is as a unit… it’s all allowed me to feel more welcomed. His impact is always going to be in my head. I', really grateful for Chris that we've got this connection, this link together.

“I want to make sure I do everything correctly, and professionally. It’s not just Chris I am doing it for, but for my family as well as the club.”

The midfielder, who earned his Spurs bow during a Europa League game against Wolfsberg last season, was quick to highlight the Addicks’ proven track record for developing young players.

“I do believe this is a place where I can grow,” he said. “It’s a place where I am able to showcase my talents. With the likes of Conor Gallagher and his pathway, I believe it is something I can live up to and achieve with the support of the staff, my family and the players. It is something I am really going to put in the work towards.

“I’ve had a few conversations with Johnnie [Jackson] and he's quite clear with how he wants the team to play. It’s just about me fitting in as best as possible.

“I’m an attacking midfielder,” added John. “I like to bring goals, assists and some excitement in the middle of the pitch. I am hardworking. I will give my all when I am wearing this shirt, I am proud to wear it as well. I am really looking forward to hearing from a new set of fans.”
