Donate to Greenwich Foodbank ahead of games against Ipswich Town and Cambridge United

The club are once again teaming up with Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust to run the annual pre-Christmas foodbank collection in the West Stand car park before the games with Ipswich Town (Tuesday, December 7th) and Cambridge United (Saturday, December 11th).

We are asking all fans attending the games to do what they can to alleviate food shortages for families in our local community over Christmas. The van will be ready for donations from 6.15pm (Ipswich) and 1.45pm (Cambridge).

Owner, Thomas Sandgaard, said: “As a club, it is important for us to support our local community and Greenwich Foodbank is doing an excellent job, supporting those most in need. The club has been working with the Supporters’ Trust on the Foodbank initiative since 2018. This year, we’ll be running the initiative for our #FillTheValley games against Ipswich Town and Cambridge United, so hopefully, with more fans in the stadium than previous years, we’ll be able to collect more food than ever before.”

These are some of the items that Greenwich Foodbank urgently need at the moment:

Fruit juice

Ketchup

Biscuits

Sugar (1kg)

Chocolate bars

Tinned soup

Tinned meat and fish

Tinned veg - (eg. peas, sweetcorn, chick peas)

Toilet rolls

Tinned spaghetti

Rice (max size 1kg)

Tinned rice pudding

Cereal/cereal bars

Tea bags/instant coffee

Please note that the foodbank currently has plenty of baked beans and pasta, so please donate the aforementioned items rather than baked beans and pasta.

Greenwich Foodbank CEO, Jamie Ginns, a Charlton fan, said: "Thank you to all the Charlton fans for thinking of Greenwich Foodbank this Christmas. We have never needed your donations more than we do now. The reduction in universal credit and an increase in living costs this Autumn has caused a huge surge in Foodbank use in recent weeks. This financial year alone by mid-November, Greenwich Foodbank had fed people 5966 times - 2576 of these times it was a child without access to food.

"Donation drives like this are vital to keeping us able to help the most vulnerable in our society. Every person that uses Greenwich Foodbank this winter will get a food pack, a listening ear and proper help to move themselves away from foodbank dependency."

"We need your support throughout the year. Find out more about us and how you can donate at: www.greenwich.foodbank.org.uk. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook and download the Foodbank App to your phone to stay up to date with what we most need and the work we do."

With large crowds expected for both games, supporters are advised to get to the stadium early to avoid congestion.

Bring your friends and bring your voices to Charlton's December games at The Valley against Cambridge United and Ipswich Town.
