Jackson’s Morecambe verdict

Jacko - Morecambe (a)

Johnnie Jackson was naturally disappointed as the Addicks surrendered a two-goal lead to draw with Morecambe on Tuesday night, though, ultimately, the Caretaker Manager was pleased to extend his unbeaten league record.

Having raced into an early lead at the Mazuma Stadium thanks to strikes from Diallang Jaiyesimi and Conor Washington, Cole Stockton halved the hosts’ arrears from the spot on 29 minutes, before Anthony O’Connor headed home 18 minutes from time to secure the Shrimps a share of the spoils.

“A completely different game, a completely different occasion to Saturday,” Jackson told CharltonTV. “We started really well, got the early goal and then you get yourselves two-nil up and you think you’ve put yourselves in a great position to go and win it. Obviously getting pegged back from that is disappointing but it’s another point. That’s six unbeaten now, another point on the board. If we can, hopefully, go to Shrewsbury and back that up with a win then we’ve had a pretty good week.

“The nature of it having been two-up and to get pegged back,” continued the Caretaker Manager. “I thought we were pretty comfortable in the game but, honestly, were the energy levels quite there from Saturday? Perhaps not.

“It’s not through lack of effort but I think maybe we were just off of how we have been, certainly Saturday and the previous games,” he added. “I think we were just a little bit off of our level, maybe a little bit sloppy in some of our play tonight and we’ve come unstuck in the end.”

The result means the Addicks have now taken 14 points from a possible 18 since the 39-year-old took caretaker charge in late October, with Jackson reflecting on Charlton’s performances in those six outings with immense pride.

“It’s a good run, we’re six games unbeaten, four wins, two draws,” he explained. “Where we’ve come in a month from where we were to where we’ve come, I think everybody should be pleased with that. We’ve managed to climb the league. We’re certainly threatening the goal in every game. I think our overall play, our energy levels and the endeavour from the lads - I can’t fault them. Where we’ve come so quickly, I’m really pleased.”
