DONE DEAL | Harry Arter returns to Charlton

Welcome Arter

Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of Harry Arter on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder, who has played 94 Premier League games, returns to the club where he made his professional debut in September 2007 after graduating through Charlton’s esteemed academy.

The Republic of Ireland international brings a wealth of top-level experience and quality to Nigel Adkins’ side.

He explained he is pleased to be back where it all began: "It's great for me to come back to the club where it all started as a young boy and see some of the faces, such as [Academy Manager] Steve Avory, who have played such a big part in my football development. It will be great to come back and hopefully help the club progress and do well."

Manager Nigel Adkins said: "I am delighted to welcome Harry back to Charlton Athletic and I am looking forward to working with him."

Arter becomes the club's ninth signing of the transfer window and Charlton Owner Thomas Sandgaard said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring in Harry. He’s an Ireland international who has played in the Premier League and Championship for many years. I’m looking forward to seeing him in a Charlton shirt.”

After initially leaving Charlton, Arter had a successful season at Woking in the Conference South and was signed by Bournemouth for the 2010/11 season. The midfielder played 255 games for the Cherries over 10 years across League One, the Championship and latterly the Premier League. He was loaned to then Premier League side Cardiff City in 2018/19, making 25 appearances, before helping Fulham to promotion from the Championship in 2019/20. Arter, who has 18 caps for Ireland, is currently away on international duty.
