MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v Lincoln City

Charlton play their game in hand at The Valley on Tuesday evening and only victory will do if they are going to push the race for the play-offs to the final day.

The Addicks sit in in eighth place in League One, three points behind Oxford United in seventh and four points behind Portsmouth in sixth and Nigel Adkins' men will have to win their final two fixtures and hope that they better those teams' results when they take on Hull City on Sunday.

Four points from the last two games could be enough, but would rely on Oxford losing or drawing on final day, Portsmouth losing and Charlton bridging the goal-difference gap with Pompey which currently sees Danny Cowley's side four goals better off.

Lincoln, meanwhile, are preparing for their play-off campaign with their place now secured.

Diallang Jaiyesimi is expected to miss out again with a hamstring injury, but Ben Watson is set to be involved after sitting out of Saturday's trip to Accrington Stanley.

For Lincoln, Brennan Johnson could return after missing their 3-3 draw with Peterborough United at the weekend with a hamstring complaint. Centre-backs Joe Walsh and Adam Jackson remain sidelined.

Charlton boss Nigel Adkins: "Whilst you’ve got hope and belief it is something to cling on to. We need to learn the lessons [from Saturday] and get ready for Tuesday, which will be a cracker against Lincoln.

“Everyone who crosses that white line wants to win a game of football. It’s up to us to go and win a game of football.

“They [Lincoln] will present a load of different situations. But we have got threats and we’ve got to try and pose the opposition problems.

“We’ve demonstrated on our day we can play well against anybody."

Lincoln boss Michael Appleton: “It doesn’t matter whether we finish third, fourth, fifth or sixth, it’s a fantastic achievement for the football club.

“Deep down, did we really think it was going to happen? We’ve got two games that we have to be really professional with. We have to use that to our advantage, to make sure we’re fully prepared.”

Charlton and Lincoln have met on 13 previous occasions with the Addicks winning seven, the Imps two and the remaining four games ending in draws.

The reverse fixture saw Lincoln win 2-0 in September thanks to a controversial opener from Jorge Grant who scored from an offside position following a penalty rebound, before Lewis Montsma scored a late second.

The last meeting in London came in the League Cup in 1986 with the Addicks winning a first-leg tie 3-1 at Selhurst Park before winning the second leg 1-0 at Sincil Bank.

The sides have not met at The Valley since February 1961 in which Charlton ran out 3-0 winners in the old Second Division.

Kevin Johnson will be the man in the middle in SE7 on Tuesday evening. He has taken charge of 27 games this season, dishing out 82 yellow cards and five reds.

Johnson last refereed a Charlton fixture for the 3-2 defeat to Gillingham at The Valley in February.

He will be assisted by Dean Treleaven and Paul Evans with Carl Brook as the Fourth Official.

The match will be played behind closed doors and supporters are reminded to maintain social distancing guidelines and to stay away from the stadium when the match is taking place.
