TEAM NEWS | One change as Inniss returns to starting XI

Nigel Adkins has made one change to the starting XI to face Peterborough United this afternoon, following the 6-0 victory at Home Park on Tuesday.

Ryan Inniss returns to the line-up in place of Akin Famewo, who drops to the bench. Adam Matthews and Ben Purrington make up the back line with Jake Forster Caskey, Ben Watson and Alex Gilbey operating in midfield.

Liam Millar and Diallang Jaiyesimi feature out wide, looking to provide service to the lone striker Jayden Stockley.

Conor Washington is fit and returns to the matchday squad as Ashley Maynard-Brewer is named as the substitute goalkeeper with Chris Gunter, Akin Famewo, Albie Morgan, Darren Pratley and Chuks Aneke also making up the bench.

Going into the match, the Addicks sit in the play-off places, two points behind Blackpool in fifth. The visitors are in second place, just four points behind leaders Hull City.

Speaking on the team selection, Nigel Adkins said: “Bringing in Ryan [Inniss] was a very difficult decision all the way through. It’s a very important decision. Ryan had an excellent game the game before (against Ipswich). We have brilliant sports science and medical staff here working with the players. We had to leave him out against Plymouth because he has a history of injuries but he’s coming back in today. It’s tough on Akin [Famewo] as he played well but I have to make these decisions.

“We had to make a few changes on the bench too which may be harsh but competition for places drives performance and that’s what we need. We have people back fit so I have to make decisions. You may not be on the bench today, but you could be starting the next match, so you have to be ready. The players have been first class, they all want to play but I’m always honest with them. They are always ready to respond in the right manner.”
