Gunter makes historic 100th appearance for Wales

Addicks full-back Chris Gunter reached a major landmark for his country on Saturday, picking up his 100th cap as he captained Wales to victory over Mexico.

Gunter is Wales’ most-capped senior player and he added to his impressive haul of appearances by leading out the side at Cardiff City Stadium and completing 90 minutes.

The friendly fixture saw Wales mark Gunter’s occasion by picking up a 1-0 win thanks to Kieffer Moore’s 11th-minute goal.

Speaking to Wales’ official channels after the game, Gunter said: “The amount of messages, love and support I’ve had from far and wide – I know how much it means to people and how happy they are for me and that’s what gets me. Of course, I’m personally pleased for myself, but it’s more about how proud other people are.

“The game went as well as it could have. I’m living a dream that I could never have dreamt – playing for a special group of people and it means everything to me.

“It means an awful lot to me and my family and it’s been a complete and utter privilege.”

Wales are back in action for their second World Cup qualifier of the international break on Tuesday evening as they host Czech Republic in Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Liam Millar has had to wait longer than expected for his second World Cup qualifying match for Canada who were due to play the Cayman Islands on Sunday. The game has been postponed until Monday evening after their opponents were not able to submit the required COVID-19 testing information in time for the originally-scheduled fixture.
