MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v Swindon Town

After two games on the road, the Addicks return to The Valley to take on Swindon Town on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

Errors proved costly at Peterborough United in midweek as Charlton came away empty-handed despite a solid performance for much of the game at the Weston Homes Stadium and Lee Bowyer will be looking for his side to put it right on home turf.

The Addicks still remain sixth in League One, but will be keen to close the gap on those teams above them and keep the chasing pack below at bay.

Swindon meanwhile, find themselves second from bottom with six wins, two draws and 14 defeats from their 22 games, so far.

The Robins arrive in SE7 off the back of a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Doncaster Rovers last weekend.

Ryan Inniss and Akin Famewo remain sidelined as they continue their rehabilitation from injury, but Ben Watson could be involved having returned to training with the squad this week.

Marcus Maddison's fitness will also be monitored after missing the last two games with a knock and returning to training this week.

Meanwhile, Albie Morgan is available again having sat out his one-match ban.

For Swindon, Zeki Fryers is out for the long-term with a torn hamstring. Jonathan Grounds, Tom Broadbent and Mathieu Baudry are also missing through injury.

Charlton Boss Lee Bowyer: “The away game at Swindon was disappointing – another game we were in control. We have to do things right and compete in the way we have done in the last couple of games. We have to just concentrate on what we need to do."

Swindon boss Brian John Sheridan: We have shown good signs a few times this season when we’ve gone a goal behind where we have been brave. A lot of the time, we’re chasing the game, and that happens too often. That’s why we’re in the position we’re in.”

Charlton and Swindon have met on 64 previous occasions with the Addicks winning 28, Swindon 15 and the other 20 encounters ending in draws.

The reverse fixture just before Christmas saw Brett Pitman net an injury-time equaliser to deny the Addicks all three points in a 2-2 draw after Omar Bogle and Chuks Aneke had cancelled out Diallang Jaiyesimi's opener.

Charlton last hosted the Robins at The Valley on the final day of the 2016/17 season with the Addicks running out 3-0 winners thanks to the goals of Josh Magennis, Jake Forster-Caskey and Ricky Holmes.

James Linington will take charge of Saturday's game in SE7. He has refereed 14 games, so far, this season, producing 31 yellow cards and two reds.

A Championship referee, Linington last took charge of a Charlton fixture during the 2-1 defeat at Bristol City in October 2019.

The match will be played behind closed doors and supporters are reminded to maintain social distancing guidelines and to stay away from the stadium when the match is taking place.
