Omar Bogle thanked his manager teammates and supporters after bagging his first Addicks goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Ipswich Town.

The striker had to wait nine games to hit the net in Charlton colours but it came at a good time as he came off the bench to put the seal on victory at Portman Road.

Speaking to the assembled press following Saturday’s win, he praised boss Lee Bowyer and his teammates for their patience.

“I’m buzzing to get off the mark, it was a long time coming,” he said.

“The gaffer has been great with me. As a striker, you’re always going to get judged on goals and there are not many managers who will keep playing them when they haven’t scored for six games.

“He has stuck with and helped me a lot. He was understanding that I hadn’t played football for a long time so it’s taken me a while to get back to my best, so I appreciate that. It’s paid off today, so that was my thank you to the gaffer and the boys for being patient with me.”

“To be an all-round striker, you have to do the hard yards for the team and help them out, it’s not all about scoring goals,” he added.

“When you do that, you get the rewards. For us to achieve anything this year, all the strikers need to do the hard work for the team.”

Meanwhile, Bogle also reserved thanks to the Charlton faithful who backed him on social media, despite some negative comments from a minority.

“As a striker, a lot of people will judge you purely on goals and not see what you do for the team,” he explained.

“So it was disappointing to get a bit of stick from some supporters because I felt like I was doing well in the games I had played in. It was only a few Twitter trolls, but I want to say a big thank you to a lot of the Charlton supporters because the support that I have got has massively outweighed the few comments from other people. Some people have sent me some really nice messages of support, completely unprovoked, so I thank them for that.”
