Lee Bowyer was pleased with the fight his team showed in a scrappy 2-0 win away at Northampton Town.
The Addicks had the better of an ugly game on a poor pitch with a strong wind blowing and Bowyer was pleased to take three points back to London.
He said: “The most important thing is that we won, that’s the main positive I can take. I don’t care what it looked like, we came here in tough, tough conditions; the pitch, the wind blowing a gale and we got three points, that is all I care about today.
“I said to the players after the game that when you do get promotion, these are the games that count. Again Ben Amos was outstanding, young Ian [Maatsen] was excellent, the two centre halves, [Chris] Gunter, I think the defence did well today. Pratley made a difference when he came on. Omar up top. I think as a group, for them to gel like that and have that fighting spirit so quickly it is really good.”
The Addicks kept their fourth clean sheet in a row and extended their winning streak to three. Bowyer explained that keeping the clean sheets gave them a great foundation to building.
“We are always going to create, the way we are, the way we play,” he said. “They had a couple of chances first half, Ben [Amos] kept us in the game. It was bad to watch. We leave with three points, that is what I care about.”
The Addicks boss said his side missed Chuks Aneke, out with a groin injury, but said he is expected to be back in contention for a place as early as next weekend.
