Bowyer on Wigan win: "We had to be at it from the first minute until the last and we were"

Lee Bowyer was pleased with the heart his side showed in a 1-0 win at home to Wigan Athletic.

Jake Forster-Caskey scored the only goal of the game, curling in a long range free kick, and the Addicks battled hard to secure the first three points of the Thomas Sandgaard era.

Alfie Doughty and debutant Ryan Inniss were both cut-open in a physical game and Bowyer was pleased to see his side keep going. He said: “It was a tough game between two solid teams. We had to be at it from the first minute until the last and we were.”

Bowyer handed four debuts following a busy three weeks in the transfer market and his team came out firing, dominating the opening 20 minutes.

He said: “We started really well, on the front foot, and we will be more clinical once we start working with the group.

“The new lads did very well, taking into account we signed two of them yesterday!”

The away side managed to create some chances in the second half and Bowyer was quick to praise the in-form Ben Amos.

He added: “Overall, it’s fair that we won that game and the most pleasing thing for me is they all dug deep at the end to get three points.”
