DONE DEAL | Paul Smyth signs on loan from Queens Park Rangers

Charlton Athletic are delighted to complete the signing of Paul Smyth on a season-long loan from Queens Park Rangers.

The 23-year-old, who possesses extreme pace, knows how to get out of League One after helping Wycombe Wanderers secure a play-off place last season.

Charlton Manager Lee Bowyer, wants to play attacking football on the front foot and believes the Northern Ireland international will help the Addicks do just that.

He said: “I think we’ve tried to get him in the last three transfer windows. He’s quick and full of energy and fits well with the type of football we like to play.”

Smyth, a forward who has been on Steve Gallen’s radar for a long time, is focused on helping the Addicks chase promotion. He said: “It feels great to be a part of the club. I spoke with the Manager and spoke with Steve as well. I want to develop as a player and Lee Bowyer said he can help me with that, I had a phone call with him yesterday and I thought ‘let’s do it, let’s get it done’.

“With Wycombe, we got promoted, it was a crazy season but getting there and getting promotion, it is something I want to achieve again.”

He becomes the ninth signing of the Thomas Sandgaard era. The Charlton owner said: “It has been a busy few weeks adding nine players to the squad and I am very pleased we’ve been able to bring in Paul Smyth, a player who fits the way we want to play.”
