DONE DEAL | Striker Omar Bogle joins the Addicks

Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of proven goalscorer Omar Bogle on a one-year deal, with the option of a second year.

The 27-year-old has scored an impressive 120 goals in 289 career appearances and becomes the second signing in as many days following the arrival of Wales international right-back Chris Gunter on Thursday.

Lee Bowyer has been searching for a striker that fits the way he wants to play for much of the summer and was delighted to be able to complete the signing. He said: “It’s a position we needed to strengthen, so I’m over the moon with Omar’s signing. He’s good at everything, his all-around game as a striker is really good and we’ll improve him, which we do with all our players. He will be a very good striker in this division.

“I’ve said it before, we have to bring the right people in and Omar fits that. He’s another piece of the puzzle and slowly but surely we’re putting a decent squad together.”

Bogle, who most recently had a spell in the Dutch Eredivisie with ADO Den Haag under Charlton favourite Chris Powell, said: “It feels very good to be here, to finally get it done and to join a very big club. I spoke to Jonathan Leko and he had loads of good things to say about the club and about the manager and how good he is as a man-manager, dealing with players. At this stage of my career, being with the right manager is important. That, going hand-in-hand with this being a big club, makes it the perfect situation for me.”

The striker becomes the fifth signing of the Thomas Sandgaard era, just two weeks after the Danish-American businessman took over the club. The Charlton owner called Bogle following the completion of the deal to welcome him to the club. He said: “I am very pleased we have been able to sign a striker of Omar’s quality. I spoke to him on the phone and he is really looking forward to playing for Charlton, so I can’t wait to see him play. We have a way we want to play and required a striker that fits that style and Omar matches that perfectly.”
