Charlton’s U23s returned to winning ways with a 1-0 derby victory at Millwall on Monday afternoon.

One goal was enough for Jason Euell’s youngsters and it came as early as the fourth minute thanks to Josh Davison. The striker won a footrace with Lions defender Rob Strachan to latch onto a ball forwards and proceeded to poke a finish into the far corner.

That was to be the only real opening for either side in a tight first half, but Millwall stopper Ryan Sandford was forced into action early in the second period, pulling off an impressive double save to first deny Davison and then Lucas Ness’ follow-up.

On 65 minutes, the Lions were reduced to 10 men when Reuben Duncan was given his marching orders for a nasty tackle on Charlie Barker.

The closest the hosts came to getting on the scoresheet came when the ball fell loose to George Alexander in the box, but Ashley Maynard-Brewer pulled off a fine save to keep him out.

With 10 minutes remaining, Albie Morgan came inches away from doubling the lead for the Addicks, only for his shot to crash back off the woodwork, but Davison’s solitary goal would be all that was needed for Charlton to return from their rivals with all three points in tow.

Charlton U23s: Maynard-Brewer, Barton, Ness, Mingi, Barker, Koiki (t) (Clayden 63), Henry, Morgan, Dempsey, Davison, Ghandour (Quitirnia 89).

Subs (not used): Harness, Powell, Carvalho (t).

Goal: Davison 4
