DONE DEAL | Marcus Maddison arrives at The Valley

Welcome Maddison

Charlton have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Marcus Maddison on a one-year deal with the option of a second.

The 27-year old was a free agent after his contract at Peterborough United came to an end in the summer. He made 249 appearances for the Posh, scoring 62 goals over a six-year period.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Maddison said: “I’m delighted, this has been going on for quite a while. There was interest in January so I’m pleased it’s been done.

“To have consistent admiration from the manager and for him to pursue me all these months down the line shows that he believes in me as a player and that’s a massive deal for me.

“It’s a fresh start for me. The amount of time I’ve had out makes you remember why you started playing football in the first place, so I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Talking about his newest addition, Addicks boss Lee Bowyer added: “Marcus is someone we tried to bring here in January, but obviously the embargo was in place. We’ve finally got our man and got it over the line.

“He brings goals. His stats over the last few years are excellent, he regularly gets to double figures in goals and gets a lot of assists, so he brings about 25 goals to a team in a season.

"He’s an experienced player that knows this league inside out.”

Maddison becomes the third signing since Thomas Sandgaard took over the club last Friday. He said: “I’m very pleased we’ve been able to sign Marcus. He is a very talented player, one that Lee and Steve have been after for some time, so I’m thrilled we’ve been able to get it completed. He’ll be a very good addition to our squad, I can’t wait to see him play.”

Maddison’s career began as a youngster with Newcastle United, but it is with Gateshead in non-League where he found his feet, enjoying an impressive 2013/14 season which earned him his move to Peterborough in the summer of 2014.
