MATCH PREVIEW | Huddersfield Town v Charlton

Match preview.jpg

The Addicks are back in action against Huddersfield Town this Saturday, looking to put Wednesday night's cruel defeat at Sheffield Wednesday behind them.

Charlton were dealt an equally-cruel blow when they last faced the Terriers back in December after a stoppage-time goal from Matty Daly proved the difference and Lee Bowyer will be expecting his side to learn from their mistakes when they make the trip to face Huddersfield once again.

Both clubs sit on 39 points, two points above Wigan Athletic who occupy third from bottom, with the Terriers in 19th and the Addicks in 18th with a superior goal difference.

Jonny Williams could feature for the Addicks having travelled with the side up north, as may Jake Forster-Caskey who has returned to fitness. However, Bowyer will check on the fitness of Naby Sarr who missed out at Hillsborough with a tight calf.

Lewis Page still remains on the sidelines, while Darren Pratley and Sam Field are also unavailable.

Tom Lockyer will serve the first of his two-match ban having picked up his 10th booking of the season on Wednesday evening.

For huddersfield, Fraizer Campbell has been ruled out in recent fixtures with a bout of tonsilitis and his condition is expected to be checked ahead of the game. Danny Cowley also looks to be without defender Tommy Elphick and goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, the latter going through the concussion protocol after a head injury.

Match preview - pre-match talk.jpg

Charlton Boss Lee Bowyer: “They’re a good bunch and they’re honest and no matter what game they go into they give one hundred percent. It's not going to be hard to pick them up. They’re going to be disappointed tonight but they’ll be training tomorrow so it shouldn’t be too hard to pick them up."

Huddersfield Defender Danny Simpson: “Anyone can beat anyone in this league. For us, we just have to worry about us. We’ve got our own targets. It’s about time we found some consistency in our performances.”

Charlton and Huddersfield have faced off 91 times with the Addicks just about edging the overall results having won 37 times compared to the Terriers' 35 victories. The sides have played out 19 draws.

Charlton's last victory at the John Smith's Stadium came in the FA Cup back in January 2014. A sole goal from Simon Church proved to be the difference as Chris Powell's men went on to make it to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Match preview officials.jpg

Geoff Eltringham will be the referee on Saturday. Eltringham has overseen 22 games this season handing out 81 yellow and two red cards. The last time he took charge of an Addicks game was back in December 2017 when Blackburn Rovers picked up a 2-0 win over Charlton at Ewood Park. Richard Wild and Jonathan Hunt will join him as assistant referees while Darren Bond will be the Fourth Official.
