Bowyer on January transfer window and the future of Lyle Taylor

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer spoke to the press this morning ahead of Saturday’s game against Barnsley.

With the transfer window closing at 11pm on Friday, January 31st the Addicks are looking to add players to complement those coming back from injury who were so impressive against Fulham at The Valley last week.

Bowyer explained: “Hopefully we’ll be bringing players in. I don’t want to be selling. I want to add to the squad not deplete it. At the moment we’re two players down from when the window opened so as the manager I want as many bodies coming through the door as possible.

“If you ask me or any other manager you want to strengthen your squad, especially coming into this part of the season. I want bodies coming in to help me and the team.

“The more we get, the easier the job for me because then you have more people to choose from and we have a lot of games coming up in February, so we need to be able to rotate the squad.”

Bowyer was also asked about the future of Lyle Taylor whose contract expires in the summer.

He said: “I hope he stays. He’s a big player for us. He’s played eight 90 minutes this season and we haven’t lost a game. If you’re asking me, on the football side of things, do I want Lyle to stay? Of course.

“I’m hopeful we can move forward, get this window out of the way, he’s still here and do something after the window because I want Lyle to still be here and be part of this club moving forward. He was a big part of us getting into this division so I’m hoping he’s a part of it moving forward as well.”
