#PrideOfTheValley | Simon Perrott

The #PrideOfTheValley campaign launched last season to reward the most dedicated Charlton fans. Each home league game, a fan is selected to win the award and the individual is presented with a signed shirt.

Today, Simon Perrott has been nominated. Simon, part of a family of Addicks, has been coming to The Valley since 1969.

We asked Simon for some of his Charlton memories…

Why I became a Charlton fan… My dad was a season ticket holder. He took me along with his friends and I was immediately hooked.

My first game at The Valley was… October 4th, 1969 against Portsmouth, the score was 2-2. I remember having a wooden rattle which appeared to annoy those fans sitting around me.

My first away day with Charlton was… Against Leyton Orient the following season which ended 0-0.

On 25th May 1998 I was… I was at Wembley behind the goal in which Richard Rufus scored. I remember feeling very confident even when losing in extra time. Just had a feeling we would win.

On 26th May 2019 I was… I was again at Wembley but this time with my three sons, Scott, Ryan and Matt. An amazing day seeing so many fans together after a number of very difficult years.

My favourite Charlton game (not including the play-off finals) is… Being at home to Southampton in the 1976/77 season which we won 6-2. It was brilliant attacking football and I seem to remember being 4-1 up at half time.

My favourite Charlton player is… Chris Solly. I remember being at Luton away last year when he scored our equaliser in stoppage time to claim a very important point.

My favourite Charlton kit is … From season 2014/15 when we last wore red shorts, it was a Nike kit.

The best part of being a Charlton fan is… Being part of a family club, which produces great young talented players. The Valley really does feel like home every time I step through the turnstile.

My all-time Charlton XI would be… Nicky Johns, Chris Solly, Richard Rufus, Joe Gomez, Paul Konchesky, Lee Bowyer, Scott Parker, Mark Kinsella, Colin Powell, Clive Mendonca, Derek Hales.

The Charlton player of the season will be… Adam Matthews. Real quality defensively and offensively. Shows great positional awareness.

The game I am most looking forward to is… Millwall at home. It’s been a very long time.....
