Assistant Manager Kim Dixson: “We worked hard, and they’ve done themselves proud”

Speaking after Charlton Women’s 4-0 loss against Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday, assistant manager Kim Dixson tries to focus on the positives the team can take from the match.

When asked about the team’s resilient first half display, which saw the Addicks frustratingly go in at the break a goal down despite limiting their opponents to a single shot on target, Dixson stated: “I think we worked very very hard first half and kept them at that one chance.

“That was probably their first shot on target really. To go in 0-0 would’ve been a massive boost for the whole squad”.

Despite the score line, Dixson was prepared for a difficult contest and made it clear that the team had prepared for that sort of affair.

“We knew that was a good team, we knew we haven’t much of the ball today, so it’s just working on how we can defend and keep the scoreline down, we were realistic on that, we had to be.”

“In the end it was probably a fair result and we’re happy with today’s performance really, we worked hard and they’ve done themselves proud really.”

With the club approaching a testing couple of fixtures as the they face Aston Villa - the league leaders - and Sheffield United – who are second - Dixson couldn’t stress more the importance of maintaining a clean sheet.

“Keep a clean sheet. That’s what we need to try to do, keep clean sheets. We haven’t done that in some of our games this year…”

“We know we can score goals but we’re not scoring three, four or five so we need to make sure we get the one goal and keep a clean sheet.”

“Me and gaffer believe that we can keep a clean sheet and get some points in the next two games, players need to believe they can get some points in these two games. It’s not impossible, they are going to have eleven players on the pitch and we’re going have eleven players on the pitch.

“We need to make sure we believe that we can get some points in these next few games.”
