U18S REPORT | Queens Park Rangers 1 Charlton 3

Charlton’s U18s continued their impressive start to the season with another victory as Richard Afrane-Kesey’s late double ensured a 3-1 success over Queens Park Rangers at Harlington on Saturday.

The striker’s late flourish gave the young Addicks their fifth win of the campaign and stretches the unbeaten run to nine games since the beginning of the season.

The visitors got off the mark with 24 minutes gone as Andre Thompson-Fearon (pictured) showed great skill in the box to turn in a low cross from the right, using his heel to flick the ball past the keeper at his near post from close range.

Rangers rallied in the second half and pulled themselves level with 19 minutes left on the clock, capitalising on a slip from stopper Nathan Harvey who could not claim a left-wing cross, leaving Dillon De Silva with the easy task of finishing into an empty net.

Charlton would not be denied the maximum points that they deserved, however, and Afrane-Kesey would prove to be the hero.

His first saw him arrive at the far post to finish into the top-right corner from Freddy Barton’s excellent, low ball into the box and put the Addicks back ahead with five minutes remaining.

And two minutes into injury-time, he struck again to put the game well beyond the home side, showing great tenacity on the edge of the box before turning and firing low past the goalkeeper to cap off a fine 3-1 victory.

The young Addicks will be looking to continue their unbeaten run to 10 games when they host Ipswich Town at Sparrows Lane on Saturday morning.
