MATCH PREVIEW | Wigan Athletic v Charlton

Take an in-depth look ahead to the Addicks' trip up to the DW Stadium as they take on Wigan Athletic (3pm)...

Wigan Athletic are up next fo Charlton as they look to bounce back from the narrow defeat last weekend to Birmingham City.

The Latics, who currently sit above the relegation zone on goals scored going into this round of fixtures, will be hoping to dust off a slow start to the season which has seen them take just a single win at the expense of Cardiff City.

Wigan take on the Addicks coming off the back of a 2-2 draw with Hull City and so will themselves be hoping to go one better against the Londoners.

Championship joint-top goalscorer, Lyle Taylor, remains sidelined for Charlton. The striker will be undoubtedly missed having a conversion rate of just under a goal-per-game.

Elsewhere, George Lapslie is out of contention for the game having injured his hamstring in training on Tuesday.

Long-term injury concern Lewis Page was dealt a blow on his journey to recovery earlier this week with the defender being placed in a protective boot after picking up an Achilles problem.

For Wigan, striker Anthony Pilkington and midfielder Josh Windass are also a doubt having suffered recurring injuries, the latter with a long standing calf problem. Prior to their fixture against Hull, manager Paul Cook insisted that the injuries were merely down to the demand of the Championship, describing it as a "brutal league with some very strong teams".

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer: "It’s going to be tough. They’ve got a good manager, he’s experienced, and he’s got a good set of players that work hard for him. They stayed up last season and you can see why because they try and give everything and I’m sure that’s what he demands.

"I think it’s going to be a similar game to last weekend. They play a similar way so it’s going to be tough."

Wigan full-back and former Addick Nathan Byrne: "They had a difficult result last weekend against Birmingham City at home, but they’ve started really well and I think they’ll probably be happy with how it’s gone.

“We had a similar start to them last season. It’s their first season back in the Championship and sometimes everything just works out. It was their first defeat last Saturday and we’re aiming to make this their second."

Wigan and Charlton have met a total of 10 times with both sides winning four times and drawing twice

The last time the two sides met, they played out a 0-0 draw at the DW Stadium in December 2017.

This week on Valley Pass, we look back at the Addicks' last victory at Wigan in February 2015 when Frederic Bulot, Igor Vetokele and Chris Eagles all netted in a 3-0 victory. Watch the highlights in the video below...

The man in the middle on Saturday will be Andy Davies who has refereed six games this season, giving out 17 yellow cards and three penalties.

The last time that Davies was in charge of a Charlton game was back in April 2018 when he took control of the Addicks' 1-1 draw away at Bristol Rovers where he didn't issue a single card.

Davies will be joined by his assistants Paul Hodskinson and Rob Smith. Steven Copeland will be the fourth official.

Approximately 900 tickets had been sold by the time they had gone off sale on Thursday. Tickets will be available from the ground on the day for cash only, with no price increase on the original price as below.
