Brendan Wiredu joins Colchester United on loan

Academy graduate Brendan Wiredu has joined Colchester United on loan until January 4th.

The 19-year-old midfielder enjoyed an impressive pre-season for the Addicks, scoring four goals in as may games, including a late winner against the League Two side in July.

Having made his senior debut for the Addicks in the Carabao Cup last term, he went on to make four appearances in cup competitions before embarking on a loan spell with Bromley in the National League, playing 11 times for the Ravens.

Wiredu started in Charlton's Carabao Cup first-round tie with Forest Green Rovers last month and he now heads to Essex to gain some valuable League experience for John McGreal's men.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for him," said Addicks Academy Manager Steve Avory.

"He's going to a club who has a good focus on young player development and I know the manager, John McGreal, is someone who believes in developing young players.

"Brendan has proved that he can cope at National League level at the back end of last season with Bromley, so this is a logical step for him."
