Chris Solly gives us his take on the upcoming season

Speaking to the press after his testimonial match against Aston Villa on Saturday, Chris Solly gave his thoughts on the upcoming season in the Championship.

After making the step back up into the second tier, Solly spoke of what he is looking forward to in what is now his eleventh year in the Addicks' first team.

"Obviously, the fixtures against Millwall are the ones I look forward to but now, in this division, there’s so many great stadiums with big crowds. Every game is going to be a tough game this season and that’s something us players are going to thrive off."

When asked about the role that the senior members of the squad will play this season, Solly iterated that they will play a big role in helping the younger members of the squad through what could be a tough year.

"We’ve got a lot of good young and talented players, but they are going to need that guidance at times. There are going to be times this season when we go through bad spells, it’s going to happen. So it will be important now that the senior lads step up and show their experience in them times."

Finally Solly set his targets for both himself and the team.

"For me, personally, it’s just about playing as many games as I can and getting in the side and staying in the side.

"As a team, I say we reach that 50-point-mark as early as we can, see how many games we’ve got left and then whatever we achieve from there we achieve. We’ll get to that 50-point-mark be safe and hopefully there will still be a few games to go and then we’ll see where we can go."
