Patrick Bauer will leave Charlton Athletic after four years in South East London, the club can confirm.

Joining from CS Maritimo in the summer of 2015 Bauer went on to make 135 appearances in the red and white scoring nine times.

Bauer wrote himself into Charlton legend last month when he scored the dramatic winner against Sunderland in the club's play-off final to send The Addicks to the Championship.

Bauer posted this message for Charlton fans on social media: "After spending the last 4 years at Charlton Athletic Football Club I have decided to start a new chapter in my career. In those 5 years I've met a lot of amazing people and made many good friends.

"Thank you to the staff, management, my teammates and especially the supporters for making me feel welcome since day one. Obviously we went through some tough times together, but I'm happy i could help the club to get back to the Championship and that we created some unforgettable memories at Wembley that will live forever. I wish everyone involved only the best for the future in this special football club."

Bauer is set to join Preston North End when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer said: “I wish him the best and hope he can carry on progressing in his career. He was a man mountain for me in the time I've been in charge. He deserves everything he gets in the game. He’s been a true professional and a great person to be around, so I just wish him all the best.

He added: “I will never forget that goal.”

Charlton season tickets are back on sale and for a limited time the club are offering Championship football at League One pricing.
