Lee Bowyer spoke to Valley Pass following yesterday’s arrival of Macauley Bonne.

The interview took place before Bowyer agreed a one-year contract extension with the club. Read more on that here.

The full interview is available on Valley Pass. Valley Pass costs just £6.50 per month and you can sign-up here. Below are some of the key points.

On getting the first signing of the summer done…

“Yeah. again our first signing is a striker. For me we need to bring people in that score goals and Macauley is definitely one of them. In the last two seasons he’s scored over 20 goals. Okay, yeah, it’s been in a lower league, but you know he can finish. He works hard and his attitude is spot on. He’s young and he’s definitely going to be one for the future.

“Is he going to be ready straight away? I think he’s going to have to adapt because obviously he’s playing with better players at a better level but he’s definitely one that we can work with and improve. So, we have to be patient but he’s definitely got potential for sure.”

On the difficulty of signing a striker…

“If you don’t score goals, you don’t win games. We did the same thing last season with Lyle [Taylor], he was our first signing and Macauley’s ours this summer.

“We have to get people in that are going to do things in the attacking third, that’s what we’re focusing on and what we’ve been focusing on for a long time.

“Steve Gallen has been looking at him for two years, so it’s been something that we’ve been keeping an eye on and now it’s the right time for him to come to us.”

On the key attributes to someone that fits the mould for playing at The Valley…

“His work rate, the crowd will love how hard he works. His attitude and that he plays for the team, so every time that he steps onto the pitch, I know that he’ll give 100% and the other side of the game (goalscoring) has just come naturally for him.

“We’ve got to work with him, he’s not the finished article. He knows that, we know that. But for me it’s a good signing and definitely one for the future.”

Charlton season tickets are back on sale and for a limited time the club are offering Championship football at League One pricing.
