Bowyer on his contract talks, Vetokele's form, Oxford United and beating Luton Town

Lee Bowyer spoke to the local press this morning ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Oxford.

The full press conference will be available on Valley Pass this afternoon. Valley Pass costs just £6.50 per month.

Below are some of the talking points.

On Igor Vetokele’s recent good form…

“If you work hard you get rewarded. That’s any player. Igor’s had to be patient with Lyle and Karlan doing well. He was unlucky with his shoulder. With games he’s got fitter and obviously his movement is improving, he’s looking sharper, he’s doing well.

“He’s naturally good in the air, physically he’s good, he holds the ball up well. That’s something we didn’t have with Karlan. We don’t have that threat down the sides but he’s brought something different to us. At the beginning he hadn’t played for a long, long time, that’s tough. He’s done well, I’m happy with the level he’s at now. He will score more goals.

“Before he had the injuries when he first arrived everyone kept telling me how good he was. I’m excited because I’m seeing the player that I heard so much about. To be fair to Igor he’s worked hard to get to that stage.”

On tomorrow’s game against Oxford United…

“I think all games now between now and the end of the season are banana skins, there are no easy games. That’s not just for us that’s for everyone. I think Luton will go up so there are four teams chasing second spot. All we can do is just be there and if they don’t capitalise on the opportunity that they have we’ll be there.”

On his contract talks…

“We’re negotiating. They put something to me but it wasn’t right, that’s what happens in these situations but I’m sure we’ll get there in the end. That’s not my focus in the minute, my focus is the next four games.”

On the win against Luton…

“It has to be the best performance of the season. A completely different performance to the Tuesday night against Wycombe. We were playing against a team that is going to win the league. I thought we were better than them from start to finish.”
