Bowyer on his contract talks and maintaining focus on winning

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer had his pre-game press conference today ahead of Saturday’s visit of Luton Town.

The full press conference is available on Valley Pass, which costs just £6.50 per month.

During the press conference Bowyer was asked if there had been any progression on talks to extend his contract with the club.

He said: “Yeah, funnily enough I’ve just spoken to Lieven (de Turck). I literally just walked in this morning and he was here. We had a quick five-minute meeting and yeah, it was what I was thinking the offer was. We had a good conversation and it was a positive conversation, and he said he wants myself and the staff to stay, and I said: ‘Well it’s likewise’. So yeah, it was a good conversation, positive conversation, they know what I expect. So yeah, I’m sure we’ll get there, it might take a little bit of time but it’s took this long, so a few more weeks ain’t gonna hurt is it?

He was then asked if he’d be signing a new deal sooner rather than later to which he said: “I don’t know, I think for me, I just wanna try and concentrate on what we’re doing here. It’s so much more important than my contract. I just want to see us keep winning games and see where we end up at the end of the season, regarding whether we can get the top two or whether we’re in the play-offs, so that’s the most important thing for me. The contract thing is going to sort itself out. But I just want to get promotion, so that’s more important. People keep asking me about the contract, it’s great, and yes like everyone knows I love the club, but when it’s going to get sorted, I don’t know, but like I said, my focus is on winning games at the moment.”
