Naby Sarr reveals the secret behind his brilliant free-kick at AFC Wimbledon

Naby Sarr says that assistant boss Johnnie Jackson put him on free-kick duties at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday

With the Addicks trailing 1-0 at the weekend, Sarr curled home a brilliant, 20-yard set-piece on 51 minutes, which gave them the platform to go on and secure a huge three points.

And afterwards Sarr – who celebrate his goal with Jackson – revealed that Charlton’s number two had encouraged him to go for goal in the lead up to the game.

“My celebration was with Jacko because on Friday he told me that, if a free-kick was on the right-hand side, I should have a go and try it,” he said.

“Free-kicks aren’t my speciality and we have good players who can take them, so I haven’t been needed before. I haven’t taken many before and maybe I got the luck of it being my first one!

“I hope the luck will find the next one too. I’m happy to take them. If I can now practice them in training that will be good.”

After Sarr had levelled proceedings, Charlton got their winner through Igor Vetokele in stoppage time to seal the Addicks’ first win in five games.

Sarr said: “It feels great to get this win away from home, especially after four games without a win. We needed that one and we’re all happy about it.

“At half-time, we said that wasn’t good enough. We’re better than this team, we just have to show it. We had chances and if we took them all we could have won 5-1 or 6-1.

“This win can be a new start for us to begin a series [of wins] and keep going. The last 13 games will be very important and this win came at the right time.”
