The Charlton women’s team moved into second place in the FA Women’s Championship table after storming to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Leicester City at Farley Way Stadium on Sunday.
Two goals apiece from Lily Agg and Liz Ejupi fired the Addicks to victory in a game they dominated from start to finish.
Their first chance came when the impressive Lilli Maple looped in an inviting ball in behind the Leicester defence but keeper Demi Lambourne did well to deny Ellie Bailes.
It took just 11 minutes for the Addicks to make the breakthrough, though. Ejupi did well to beat Lambourne to the ball before turning and crossing for Agg, who volleyed home in off the post from just inside the area.
Agg then went close twice in quick succession. Firstly, she powered a free-kick over the crossbar by millimeters before a 20-yard effort crashed against the woodwork.
Five minutes before the interval, Charlton deservedly doubled their advantage when a deep Charlotte Gurr corner was pushed on by Lambourne but only as far as Ejupi, who poked home from close range.
Charlton were straight on the front foot once the second half started and netted two more goals in as many minutes.
On 49 minutes, they worked the ball out to the left for Gurr to pick out Ejupi, who guided the ball into the roof of the net for 3-0. Just a minute later, it was four. Another well-worked goal saw the ball played to the right flank this time, where Amber Stobbs whipped in a wicked centre for Agg to head home.
Charlton still had chances to increase their lead. Substitute Gemma Bryan found herself one-on-one with Lambourne, but could only shoot wide of the target.
In the end, Charlton eased to victory, with an FA Women’s Continental Cup group stage clash with Arsenal next up at Boreham Wood on Wednesday, December 5th.
