Bowyer pleased to see Ajose and Marshall rewarded in Mansfield win

Lyle Taylor will steal the headlines, and rightly so, for his sublime hat-trick in Charlton’s 5-0 FA Cup first-round replay win at home to Mansfield Town.

However, some praise must go to his strike partner this evening, Nicky Ajose, who put two goals on a plate for Taylor and scored a goal of his own in a performance Manager Lee Bowyer said was his best during his spell at the club

Speaking after the game Bowyer said of Ajose: “He’s done what we’ve asked. He’s making runs in behind, he’s a threat in behind and he’s linking up and he’s fighting and he’s working and he got rewarded. He got rewarded at the end for his hard work today.

“It’s the most I’ve seen him run around and the most I’ve seen him run behind, I’ve just said that to him: ‘Since I’ve been at this club, that is the most I’ve seen you run in behind to try and get you in behind other teams’ and he’s good at it. I’m pleased for him.”

Bowyer was also pleased for winger Mark Marshall who scored his first goal of the season.

He said: “I’m over the moon for Marshy. At times I’m firm but fair, I believe. I keep telling Marshy ‘Get across that full back, get across that full back, you’ll score, I promise you’ and today he’s done it and he scores. Hopefully he takes it on board and he does it more.”
