Charlton fans raised £2,218 for Cancer Research UK as The Valley went pink for Oxford game

The Valley was awash with pink on Tuesday as part of Lyle Taylor’s Pink October campaign and bucket and text collections on the night raised £2,218 for Cancer Research UK.

Added to what has already been donated via Lyle’s fundraising page, the total raised is now more than £7,000 with further donations and funds raised from the pink matchday programme and pink beanies still to come.

The fundraising was coordinated by Player Liaison Officer Tracey Leaburn, with 28 volunteers joining in, including pink-haired Harry Goedhart and his Kent Football Club teammates, three Charlton fans from Strood U10s, #PrideOfTheValley winner Daneka Knott and Valli the dog.

Lyle said: “It was great seeing so much pink around the stadium, from the sponsor boards, to our warm-up shirts and to see so many people, young and old, wearing pink. It is difficult to express how grateful I am to everyone who got involved with the activity on Tuesday. The Charlton and Oxford fans were so generous with their donations and the fundraisers were magnificent. I was also touched by those that gave up their time to shake a bucket and collect money on Tuesday. It was a sea of pink outside The Valley and young Harry, his teammates, the Strood boys and everyone else did a fantastic job.”

Other fundraising on the night included Patrick Bauer signing photos and meeting fans in the club shop while Jake Forster-Caskey and Igor Vetokele took part in a Q&A in the Fans' Bar.

It is not too late to sponsor Lyle. You can donate via his fundraising page or text to donate by sending “CAFC90” and then your donation to 70070.
