Ward looking to continue Valley goalscoring record

Charlton’s new signing Jamie Ward is hoping to keep his scoring streak at The Valley going after joining the Addicks yesterday.

The Northern Ireland international has netted four goals in his last three games at Charlton's home and is looking to add to the tally.

He said: “I scored a few times at The Valley. I scored a penalty in one game, I’ve scored two in another game and I’ve scored a free kick in another game, so I’ve always had good times when I’ve been there with other teams so hopefully those good times will carry on with my goalscoring record at the ground.”

Ward’s first goal at The Valley was a penalty against Lee Grant in a 1-1 draw at The Valley on December 29th 2012.

He then scored a deflected free kick past Ben Alnwick in a 2-0 win for Derby on December 14th 2013 and hit the crossbar in the same game.

Ward netted twice in the two teams August 19th 2014 meeting, a game which saw Charlton come out on top thanks to a header from Ward’s new teammate Igor Vetokele. Ward’s first goal was a well struck left-footed effort from outside the area that gave goalkeeper Nick Pope no chance. The second also came from outside the area but is one that England international Pope may not want to see again.

The winger’s heroics against Charlton weren’t limited to The Valley. In September 2012 he netted twice past Ben Hamer. The first was a seventh minute volley from just outside the area and the second a penalty after he himself had been tripped in the box.

Joining Charlton he said: “I’m obviously delighted. It’s a big opportunity for me to join a club I’ve always enjoyed playing against. It’s an important time for myself to get games under my belt and hopefully help Charlton go in the right direction and push up the league.”
