Joe Aribo: Charlton needed to be ruthless in both boxes against Accrington

Joe Aribo wants Charlton to develop a ruthless streak.

The Addicks were held to a draw at Accrington Stanley on Saturday, having been in front from the 15th minute up until the 78th minute.

After the game, caretaker boss Lee Bowyer labelled the draw as ‘not good enough’ and Aribo believes that had his team been better in the final third then they would have walked away with a victory.

“We should have been more ruthless in both boxes,” he said. “We could have got more goals on the board if we were more ruthless in the final third.

“We can’t be conceding goals [like we did] and we need to score more too. That’s essentially what it comes down to, that’s what football is.

“We’ve been putting in good performances and working hard as a team. Results right now aren’t really going our way and we just need to keep pushing together.”

Aribo explained that caretaker boss Lee Bowyer was very honest with his players after Saturday’s draw.

He said: “He spoke to us and said we need to be better and we need to want it more. We need to make the right decisions in the final third and then it can be a tap in or something like that to create a goal.”
