Charlton name new club and team captains for 2018/19

Chris Solly has been named as Charlton’s new club captain.

Academy graduate Solly has been a professional at the club for over a decade and takes the mantle from the retiring Johnnie Jackson.

Meanwhile, Jason Pearce will be the Addicks’ team captain during 2018/19 and will wear the armband on matchdays.

Solly said: “I’ve been a professional at Charlton for over 10 years now and it’s an honour to be named as club captain. Offering advice to our young players is something I have really enjoyed these last few years and my new role will enable me to do even more of that.

“I obviously won’t be wearing the armband on a matchday but that won’t affect the way that I play on the pitch. I’ve always given 100 per cent for this club and that will never change.

“Pearcey is a great guy and a great leader. We have a brilliant relationship and I’ll always be there to offer my support to him.”

Pearce has worn the armband at all of his previous clubs and he is delighted to now be the full-time wearer of the armband in SE7.

He said: “I’ve never hidden my desire to be captain of Charlton because it’s a responsibility I love having. Leading the team out towards the end of last season was something that I really enjoyed and I’m delighted that I’ll be able to do the same next season.

“Sols is Charlton through and through and I know that he’ll continue to set a fantastic example on the pitch to both our younger and more experienced players.”

Caretaker boss Lee Bowyer says that both players have crucial roles to play on the pitch, as well as off of it.

“Sols has an important role to play in and around the place. He is a real club person, he has been here forever and obviously the younger players especially look up to him. He’s the role model.

“In the time I was in charge last season and Pearcey was captain, he stood up and was immense for us. He’s a leader. He set the example and everyone followed him. Pearcey on the pitch is a leader who brings everyone together and pushes them.”
